Our farm and family!

Our famous "goat house" often raises a few questions with the UPS man and others who visit. One day when he brought a package I was doing goat chores as usual and I told him "you know we don't live here don't you?" He just laughed and said it didn't matter this is West Virginia. ha ha Well the house came with the property that we bought to raise goats on so we decided to turn it into a barn. The goats just love it and it makes a perfect labor and delivery area. Its located right across the road from where we live too!

Above are some of the kidding pens we built in one of the "living rooms". Below is another "family room" renovated into kidding area. In just a couple hours all three of these does deliver and we had 8 kids!

We put survellience in all the kidding rooms so we can watch from the comfort of the "kitchen".  Here Chris is anxiously waiting for Mylie to deliver her spots!  Below I am taking a load off after a hard day delivering kids! Our kitchen is heated so its nice to unthaw in also.

A small bedroom we converted to two stalls.

"Trust me you do not want to go outside!"

Below Mandi watches and waits for more kids to play with.  She just loves babies!

We installed Ritchie waterers this past fall and I can honestly say its the best investment we've ever made! They are heated so we never need to worry about breaking ice or dragging a hose! Chris came up with a clever way to devide them to work in 2 lots since they are 2-sided. We had to put a block so the smaller ones can reach.

My daughter Sierra won reserve grand champion at our local Buckwheat Festival.  She also won County Bred Grand & Reserve!!! 09

Sierra received Reserve Grand Champion at our local fair September 2008 with a percentage doe that we raised and she was so excited! We were fortunate enough to get to take this doe home and breed her to produce her Grand Champion County Bred doe for 2009. Thanks Art Lipscomb!

I also get attached too much! This is Sierras market doe the day of the sale. She did get donated back so we can continue snugglin' at home. Hey, I raised her in the house for 2 months with a diaper she's one of the family!

" Grandkids are Gods way of rewarding us for not killing our kids. "  This sweetie is Ty, he's our first grandchild, so he's obviously  surrounded with more love than he can handle. I can't wait to teach him to show goats! What judge wouldn't fall for that smile?

  • We have several stalls made up for the does to have some privacy at kidding time and then the kids use them to enjoy some R & R and their first chance at grain without the pushing and shoving of hungry mommies. Theres small doors cut in some of them for easy in and outs.

This is how they all stay good and warm when its below 0. Dog pile!
  • I didn't want any pictures of myself but my sister insisted so here I am in my favorite place in the world; in a dirty stall, covered in who wants to admit what with a 150 lb. doe laying on my legs while she gives birth to twins. Hey, I love goats!

  • Chris is a pro at grinding feet. I used to use hoof nippers until we saw a demo from Sisters II where they used a grinder.  Boy am I glad we found a new way, now all I have to do is clip a little in between. Check out his demo video on the videos page!

    .

  • Jeremy isn't as much as a goat lover as his dad. As you can see his passion is cattle. I can say when we need him he's always there with that helping hand.

Pictures like these speak for themselves.

This is Nathaniels market steer this year. He picked him off our own farm and raised him out to finish at 1195 pounds at Buckwheat Festival time. He'd like to throw out a huge thanks to Seth and Vicki Cogar of Mountaineer Mini Trucks for purchasing his steer this year!!! Watch for next year he'll be bringing "Smokie" a grey angus cross.

Fierce isn't he? Not really, Chris taught him to smile when he was a pup. Bingo is now 14 years old. Great Pyrenees & Border Collie mix. The most gentle dog you'll ever meet. Don't tell anyone though ; he's our security system.

Rascal is my bodyguard. He may be fat but he can run. I drive a minitruck over our farm and he'd follow me 100 miles if I went that far. Most loyal dog I've ever known.

Maisy is our 12 year old Lab, Husky, Shepherd mix that is a sweetie!  She has been with us all her life and enjoys going around with me & Rascal.
